How to claim
First you need to create an account with MyGov on the MyGov website (my.gov.au). When you have done this download the Medicare Express app onto your smart phone or tablet.
To begin your claim you need to take a photo with your device of your receipt of your procedure then upload it onto the app. Medicare will assess your claim and put your refund into your nominated bank account and email you your statement to your registered email address. When you have received your Medicare statement you then present this to your Private Health Fund for assessment for a further refund.
All going well this will take approximately 3-4 days.
Alternatively you can obtain a Medicare Claim form and a Medicare Two-Way Claim form when you pay your procedure invoice in full. If you fill in both these forms and post it to Medicare they will assess your Medicare claim and then Medicare should then forward on your claim to you Private Health Fund for their assessment and refund. Both refunds will be put into your nominated accounts you have registered with Medicare and your Health Fund.
This may take up to three weeks or longer.
Finally you can take your receipt into a MyGov branch to make your Medicare claim then take your receipt to a branch of your Private Health Fund.
