Second Opinions

From time to time everyone needs a second opinion. A second opinion is when you visit another specialist to ask for their opinion. People ask for second opinions for a variety of reasons: To reassure and give confidence to a diagnosis, as information gathering and to investigate all possibilities.

It can provide a different point of view . Everyone has the right to a second opinion. Some patients have been fully investigated before they see me and others are partially investigated and will need more work up. The more information you bring with you from your other consultation, the easier it is to provide a second opinion.

Some patients are concerned that their initial consultant will be upset if they seek a second opinion. Most good breast surgeons encourage their patients to seek as much information as they need to be comfortable with their decision and a second opinion may be part of this. It does not necessarily mean that you want to change surgeons, simply that you want reassurance about your treatment plan.
